Family Business Since 1988
Started by Alan and Joy in 1988. The office was attached to the family home in a small village in Suffolk. Having moved up from Essex, with daughter Kate, Alan had been a security engineer with Modern Alarms. Joy worked for Marks & Spencer as a buyer. Since coming to the area, Joe had been born, and the couple were looking for careers that would allow them a healthy balance between working and raising a young family. Due to Alan's work history and a lack of security companies in the area, Waveney Security sprung to life.
Over the years Waveney Security has trained a number of engineers, who are still in the industry today, We affiliated with NSI (or NACOSS as it was known then) and then BAFE.
We have seen signalling start at ABC going through to APP systems and signalling powered using WIFI and 4G.
When our engineers were originally on call, they had the use of a pager and a single mobile phone that was passed around as call changed to the next staff member, together with a box of parts.
As the years moved on, so did the company and family life. The company moved to the current site in Bungay in 1997. Alan and Joy parted ways and Alan moved over to the United States. Joy continued with the company, with Kate & Joe.
Just before covid hit, Joy had to have a hip replacement and it was deemed a suitable time for Kate & Joe to step into their parents shoes. Little did they know what was round the corner.
During the 2020 lockdown the office received a make over and a new management system was put in place to help with a more economical method of running the company.
In more recent years Waveney Security has evolved to a more modern day company, while still holding on to old school values. Repair rather than replace is a preferred method of work. We have a number of older systems still working because they have been well looked after. We work together with customers and insurance companies to find the most cost effective plan of action. The aim is to work smarter, not harder. This means we will always find better methods at a better cost, to pass onto our customers.
Sadly on the 3rd February 2024 Joy passed away from MND (Motor Neurone Disease), Surrounded by family & friends and with a final video call from Alan.
